In light of recent events, so many facets of our everyday life have suddenly become more difficult or altogether out of reach as closures and cancellations continue nationwide. However, it will still be entirely possible to have a perfect Easter with family in the safety and comfort of your own home! That’s right – you won’t even have to go outside if you follow these easy tips on how to have a perfect holiday.

As many of you may know, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is currently closed to the general public in an effort to mitigate the threat of accidental exposure to the Coronavirus and help stem the tide of the pandemic within the sunshine state and local community.

Although guests are currently not allowed to visit the museum to maintain social distancing, Association staff has been given the option of staying home or coming to work based on their own personal needs. Those who elect to come to work are required to follow strict COVID-19 safety measures that exceed the recommendations of local, state, and federal health organizations. Employees will be allowed to continue coming to work as long as it is safe to do so and the Association is financially able to pay them.

Current lighthouse employee activities during this difficult time include the restoration of the covered porches on all three keeper dwellings, repainting of the tower’s interior ironwork, grounds maintenance, and more. This important work will help the Association continue its mission to preserve and interpret the maritime and social history of the Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station. 

Sea turtle season is soon upon us as some of our favorite marine critters will be joining us on our beaches from May 1st to October 31st. As many of the world’s sea turtle species are either endangered or threatened, they are all protected by local, state, and federal laws and there are many precautions set in place so as to allow spectators to observe this beautiful cycle of life. Nearly 90% of sea turtle nesting takes place in Florida each year and it’s crucial to make sure that you’re doing everything right to help our little friends make it to the ocean safely. The following are the best ways to ensure that this year’s nesting season goes off without a hitch!

We at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse & Museum are hoping for the continuous health and safety of everyone amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
