Motorcycle enthusiasts can have their fun in the sun by hitting the open road and taking a leisurely cruise down South Atlantic Avenue or South Peninsula Drive to the world-famous Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum. The lighthouse has remained one of Daytona’s most popular biker destinations for more than four decades and this year is no exception. Come on down and enjoy all the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse has to offer before heading over to one of the town’s popular waterfront eateries for a cold beverage\, delicious seafood\, and live music. As a special treat\, the lighthouse museum will feature a special exhibit chronicling the history of Motorcycles on the Beach throughout the week. All activities are included with regular admission\, no advance reservations required.

We’re looking for new volunteers to help the museum meet it’s growing educational programming needs. Current lighthouse volunteer opportunities include: \n\nMuseum Tour Guide\nTower Monitor\nLiving History Interpreter\nCostuming Assistant\nSeamstress/Tailor\nWorkshop Facilitator\nEvents Assistant/Coordinator\nEducational Outreach Facilitator\n\nPrevious docent or teaching experience is not required and complete training is provided to all volunteers. DESCRIPTION:This month’s Volunteer Meeting will be held on Tuesday\, 7/16/24 beginning at 11 AM in the Education Building. \nThis meeting will also be open for new volunteer applicants: Do you have a passion for history that you would like to share with young and old alike? Are you looking for an opportunity to socialize with others and contribute to a worthy cause? Does the opportunity to learn new things and instill a love of history and culture in others excite you? If you answered yes to any of these questions\, then the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is the place for you! We’re looking for new volunteers to help the museum meet it’s growing educational programming needs. Current lighthouse volunteer opportunities include: \n\nMuseum Tour Guide\nTower Monitor\nLiving History Interpreter\nCostuming Assistant\nSeamstress/Tailor\nWorkshop Facilitator\nEvents Assistant/Coordinator\nEducational Outreach Facilitator\n\nPrevious docent or teaching experience is not required and complete training is provided to all volunteers. In appreciation for their valuable contribution to the museum\, volunteers are provided with a free annual membership\, scheduled luncheons\, off-site field trips\, and an annual volunteer award dinner. \nIf you’re interested in volunteering\, just show up! SUMMARY:Independence Day at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse
DESCRIPTION:  \nJuly 4th                                  Independence Day at the Lighthouse                                      10:30am – 2:30pm \nDid you know that the first building built by our new nation was a lighthouse?*  Kick off your 4th of July at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum! Discover the fascinating story of this important National Historic Landmark as you climb 203 steps to the top of Florida’s tallest lighthouse and explore the largest\, best preserved\, and most authentic light station in the country. Special family-oriented activities are scheduled on the light station’s grounds between the hours of 10:30am and 2:30pm\, including kid-friendly crafts and historic reenactors. A special presentation about founding father\, Alexander Hamilton\, first Secretary of the Treasury\, who oversaw the founding of the United States Lighthouse Establishment (USLHE)\, and the Cape Henry Lighthouse*\, will be offered at 1:00pm.  Oh\, by the way\, Hamilton’s advocacy for building sturdy lighthouses was strongly supported by that former surveyor\, President Washington\,  It is said he actually travelled to the area of the Montauk Lighthouse from the capital at New York City to inspect the area for the lighthouse which was built there. \nThe Lighthouse & Museum will be open to the public on July 4\, 2024 from 10 AM – 9 PM. (Last admission at 8 PM)
